Cyclone Nargis

This Cyclone hit Myanmar on May 2nd.




It had very fast wind of 190km/h.




It caused a lot of damage. A lot of very big old trees fell down.




Also there was a lot of floods. Many poeple lost thier houses because of the floods.


My wife is from Myanmar. Her parents live in Yangoon but they are OK.

Longyi

A longyi is a kind of traditional Myanmar clothes.

In Myanmar most people wear a longyi.


They come in many colors and patterns.





Both men and women wear them but men`s and women`s styles are different.

A man`s longyi is either a plain color or has stripes or checks.



A woman`s longyi has more colors and also flowers.

My Terrible Christmas Vacation

I did nothing interesting.

It`s Happy Hoko Time!!

Let`s all enjoy Hoko (Make-up classes) together!!!

I was sick at the beginning of this semester. I was so sad!!!





I`m so happy these days because I can have SO MANY Hoko.

Here is my schedule for this week:

Monday- 4 classes
Tuesday- 5 classes
Wednesday- 4 classes
Thursday- 5 classes
Friday- 5 classes
Saturday- 3 classes

Total- 26 classes!!!

One class is 1.5 hours

26 X 1.5 = 36 Hours of teaching!!!




Sunday- Sleep all day!!!

This year my Christmas vacation will be terrible!!!




I will stay in Tokyo!

Tokyo is not so beautiful.

SHOCK!!

It will be too cold!! But if there is snow it will be beautiful.

Maybe I`ll just drink beer with my friends.

And eat dinner. I love Kawa ebi. It is the best!

I should go hiking in the mountians. I need exercise and the mountians are so nice!

But really, I want to go to a hot country and relax on the beach.





But really really....I want to go to Myanmar.






Do you know why I want to go to Myanmar???

My Favorite Band!!

I like Heavy Metal.

My favorite Heavy metal band is ANTHRAX!!!

They are from New York City. The same as me!

Thier music is so good but they are not so famous. I don`t know why they are not so famous. They are so good!

They have changed the singer many times.

The original singer was Joey Belladona. I liked him a lot.


But the band didn`t like him so they changed to John Bush. At first I was so sad but I came to like John Bush after a while.


But they changed again. Now the singer is Dan Nelson. I don`t know if he is good or not. I hope that he will be good and they will not change singers again.


UPDATE!

Now they have the original singer back again!

Why do they keep changing!!!

There are some wonderful temples in Myanmar.

This is called Shwedagon Pagoda. It is the biggest Pagoda in Myanmar.






This is the night view of the same temple.







There are some strange customs there.

For example, people chew Betel nuts.

People put the nuts into a leaf and chew them.





But it makes their teeth become red.

And they have to spit out the juice.

This makes the ground red also.

In some places you can`t spit out the juice.

Also there are many old cars. this is a bus in Myanmar

But the food is very nice.

This is mohinga. It is noodles with fish soup.

Mohinga is so good. I eat it everyday in Myanmar!!!

I want to eat mohinga now.

In Myanmar they have a water festival. When it is too hot people have a party and throw water at each other. It looks like so much fun! I want to try it!!!

Grave of the Fireflies

Grave of the Fireflies is a shocking movie.
In this movie, Seita (14) and his sister Setsuko(4) become orphans at the end of WW2. They are sent to live with thier aunt. Seita was too proud to live with his aunt so he took Setsuko and lived alone.
This moive is based on the true story of the author Akiyuki Nosaka. He wrote the book "Grave of the Fireflies" because he felt guilty about is actions toward his sister.
Watch this movie! You will cry a lot. it is so sad!
